Yes, Atlanta snapped an eight-game losing streak at Nationals Park with a 1-0 victory over Washington on Wednesday night. The one run came on a bases-loaded walk.
But why do the Braves stink in our nation's capital, where other teams have no problem winning?
Let's face it, the Nationals are not exactly a good team. They won 59 games last season, but just about 20 percent of those wins came against the Braves.
Atlanta was a woeful 2-7 in Washington last season, and both of those wins came in April.
Could it be Washington's pitching? Name that Nationals' starter.
The Nationals rotation is one of the worst in the league.
Their relievers were so bad that even Nationals acting GM Mike Rizzo called them incompetent earlier this season.
Their offense? Ryan Zimmerman, Adam Dunn and who?
Maybe it's the rabid Nationals fan base. Nope.
The team is so bad that no corporation wants to put its name on the building. The fans haven't exactly flocked there either, as the ballpark was less than half full for the majority of its first year in operation.
Perhaps it's just familiarity. Kasten, the Nationals president, has mirrored his franchise to that of his former Atlanta organization -- even stealing some of Turner Field's design aspects and incorporating them into the Nationals' new park.
Nevertheless, if the Braves want to compete in the mediocre National League East, they will need to beat down the Nationals with regularity -- home or away, each and every day.
A repeat of last year's 6-12 record will assure another long offseason for the Braves.
BRAVES 1, NATIONALS 0: Jair Jurrjens hurled 7 2/3 innings of shutout ball, and Omar Infante scored Atlanta's lone run on a bases-loaded walk to help the Braves snap an eight-game losing streak in Washington.
Mike Gonzalez recorded the last out of the eighth inning for the win, and Rafael Soriano retired the side in order to record his second save in the ninth for Atlanta, which won for just the second time during the first six games of its nine-game road trip.
