Starting pitcher Chuck James, who was recalled from Class AAA Richmond to take Tim Hudson's spot in the Atlanta rotation, was the latest Braves pitcher to get tattooed, allowing six runs including two bombs over 2 2/3 games as the Braves fell for the sixth time in seven games on Friday.
Over the past seven games, Atlanta's staff has allowed a staggering 62 runs, something long time skipper Bobby Cox attributes to one thing -- the failure to locate.
"It's always the theme," the beleaguered Cox said after Atlanta's latest loss. "You can throw as hard as you want, but if you don't locate, you're not going to win."
Location, location, location is not just a mantra used in business.
Prince Fielder cashed in one of those poorly located pitches on Friday -- smashing a titanic 414-foot homer into the Terrace Pavilion in right field, just missing the second deck in a part of Turner Field where the ball doesn't particularly travel all that well.
"That one did not get out by a little," said James, who admitted that he was wild in the contest. "He hit that one good."
If only the Braves' bats could have gotten similar hits.
The club had an awful approach at the end of Friday night's contest, seeing just 18 pitches in the sixth, seventh and eighth frames en route to being shut out for the 11th time this season.
No pitching. No hitting. No winning. These sure are sad times in Atlanta.
BREWERS 9, BRAVES 0: Jeff Suppan and two relievers combined for a five-hit shutout of the woeful Braves, who have lost six of their last seven. Chuck James, who was recalled from Class AAA Richmond earlier Friday, allowed six runs and six hits in 2 2/3 innings for Atlanta, which has allowed 62 runs over its last seven games.
