--3B Chipper Jones regained the lead in the NL batting race with a 2-for-3 night. He is now hitting .359; the Cardinals' Albert Pujols is hitting .357.

--OF Josh Anderson got the start in center field and batted leadoff, where he figured to see a lot of fastballs unless there were runners on base. Anderson, who had a 27-game hitting streak at Class AAA Richmond, went 1-for-2 with two walks.

--SS Yunel Escobar has hit into a team-leading 20 double plays through 133 games. So manager Bobby Cox had Escobar batting in the fifth spot, where he went 0-for-3.

--RHP Rafael Soriano had season-ending surgery. Dr. James Andrews performed an ulnar nerve transposition and also removed a small bone spur in the posterior of the right elbow. Soriano is expected to pitch again by spring training 2009.

--RF Jeff Francoeur went 4-for-7 in the first two games of the Marlins series, which is only the fourth time all season he has had consecutive multi-hit games. He was 1-for-4 Thursday.

BY THE NUMBERS: 29th and last -- Where the Braves' 6.29 ERA in 29 games since the All-Star break ranked in the majors and the National League, respectively, through Aug. 24.
