--3B Chipper Jones was back in the lineup after a day off Sunday, but he was still nursing an head cold. Jones, five points behind Cardinals 1B Albert Pujols in the batting race going into Monday's game (Pujols was at .364, Jones at .359) wants to stay in the lineup as much as he can. Jones was 1-for-4 with a single in Monday's 4-3 loss.
--1B Casey Kotchman has returned to the team and has been reinstated form the restricted list. He had been on the bereavement list while at the hospital bedside of his mother, who suffered a brain hemorrhage August 19. She remains in intensive care but has improved. Kotchman will need a day or two of baseball activity before he'll be ready to play in a game. --RHP Charlie Morton, Tuesday's starting pitcher, will be recalled from Class AAA Richmond. Morton is working with pitching coach Roger McDowell to stand tall on the mound to prevent throwing across his body. The result was that he retired the first 10 batters he faced in his Aug. 28 start against the Marlins.
LHP Jeff Ridgway will be recalled from Class AAA Richmond.
--INF Brent Lillibridge will be recalled from Class AAA Richmond.
--C Corky Miller will be recalled from Class AAA Richmond.
--RHP James Parr will be recalled from Class AAA Richmond.
--1B Martin Prado was 0-for-5 after batting a major league-best .432 (32-for-74) in August (minimum 50 plate appearances).
BY THE NUMBERS: 14 -- Number of consecutive seasons 3B Chipper Jones has hit at least 20 home runs, matching Hall of Famer Eddie Mathews as the only players in major league history to accomplish that from the beginning of their careers.
