Atlanta Braves Notes, Quotes 2008-09-17

Atlanta Braves Notes, Quotes 2008-09-17
--3B Chipper Jones maintained his .365 batting average by going 1-for-2 with three walks. He has reached base in 39 consecutive games.

--2B Kelly Johnson was out of the starting lineup against Phillies LHP Jamie Moyer despite his .354 average (45-127) against left-handers. (Manager Bobby Cox has his tendencies, and this is one of them.) Johnson was able to extend his hitting streak to a career-high 14 games with a two-run pinch single in the sixth inning.

--SS Yunel Escobar was out of the lineup again. "No good," he said of his sore right hamstring, and manager Bobby Cox thinks it might be more serious than a day-to-day injury.

--RHP James Parr's scoreless streak came to an end in the third inning, giving him 14 scoreless innings to start his major league career, the most for an Braves pitcher since Larry McWilliams's 14 scoreless in 1978.

--C Brian McCann was 3-for-5 and had his first bunt hit. He is 13-for-27 (.481) in his current seven-game hitting streak.

BY THE NUMBERS: .050 -- RF Jeff Francoeur's batting average with the bases loaded and fewer than two outs, through Sept. 11.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I don't think even we've lost that way." -- 2B Kelly Johnson, after the Braves beat the Rockies 5-4 in 10 innings on a balk. Johnson scored the game-winning run.
