--OF Matt Diaz signed a one-year contract. Diaz, who was arbitration-eligible, was being given a chance to be the everyday left fielder last season when he tore up his knee sliding into an unpadded section of Miller Park.
--LHP Mike Gonzalez has signed a one-year contract, avoiding salary arbitration. Gonzalez returned midseason in 2008 from Tommy John surgery after missing most of 2007. --RF Jeff Francoeur has transformed his batting stance to make it more balanced; he was far out on his front foot last season, with disappointing results.
--LHP Tom Glavine, who has begun to throw off the mound at his home, is scheduled to visit Dr. James Andrews on Jan. 28 for a checkup on his surgically repaired left elbow.
--The Braves have three remaining arbitration-eligible players: RF Jeff Francoeur, 2B Kelly Johnson and 1B Casey Kotchman. There is a $950,000 difference between what the Braves are offering and what Johnson is asking; a $775,000 difference for Kotchman; and a $1.15 million difference in Francoeur's case.
