--RHP Anthony Lerew was outrighted to Class AAA Gwinnett after clearing waivers. He missed about a year of action following Tommy John surgery in May 2007.
--OF Garret Anderson signed with the Braves, giving general manager Frank Wren the power-hitting outfielder on his wish list. Anderson may platoon in left with Matt Diaz, but he hits lefties and righties well, so he could play on a regular basis. --RHP Jair Jurrjens will not pitch for the Netherlands in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. He believes he needs to stay in the Braves' camp to be in the best pitching shape for the season.
--RHP James Parr will be working on sinker during spring training, hoping to pick the brains of RHP Derek Lowe and RHP Tim Hudson while he's in camp.
--LHP Jo-Jo Reyes spent the offseason completely reworking his mechanics after an end-of-year video session with pitching coach Roger McDowell. Reyes will have to pitch more consistently to get another shot at the Braves rotation.
--Manager Bobby Cox said he'll have to keep reminding himself not to schedule intrasquad games on the several off days during spring training. He's concerned about not running players -- especially pitchers -- into the ground in a camp extended by the World Baseball Classic.
BY THE NUMBERS: 11 -- The Braves won't need a fifth starter until their 11th game, April 18. LHP Tom Glavine is expected to be the starter that day.
