--3B Chipper Jones continued to play through the pain of a sore right quadriceps, collecting one hit in five at-bats Thursday. The 36-year-old slugger saw his major league-leading average fall five points to .414.
--RHP Tim Hudson hurled a gem for Atlanta, allowing one run and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out five. However, the Atlanta ace was saddled with a no-decision after the Braves bullpen surrendered the lead in the ninth before losing it in extra innings. --The Braves announced that they will recall top pitching prospect RHP Charlie Morton from Class AAA Richmond to start Saturday's game against the Angels. Morton is 5-2 with a 2.05 ERA in 13 games (12 starts) for Atlanta's top farm team.
--The Braves fell to 3-18 in games decided by one run this season and are a major-league worst 7-24 away from Turner Field. They also have dropped a record-tying 21 straight one-run decisions on the road, matching the Kansas City Royals' streak of futility from 2000-01.
--LHP Mike Hampton will try for yet another comeback, taking to the hill to toss a five-minute simulated game in Anaheim on Friday. If all goes well, the oft-injured Brave will begin a minor league rehabilitation assignment next week. The 35-year-old has not pitched in a big league game since Aug. 19, 2005, due to a myriad of injuries.
