Atlanta Braves Notes, Quotes 2008-07-08
--The Braves must have left their bats back in Atlanta on Monday -- Dodgers RHP Hiroki Kuroda stymied Atlanta's offense by surrendering just one hit in a complete-game shutout. It was the first time that the Braves have been held to one or fewer hits in a game since Diamondbacks LHP Randy Johnson pitched a perfect game against them on May 18, 2004.

--1B Mark Teixeira had Atlanta's lone hit, a double to lead off the eighth. Kuroda retired 21 straight before the base hit and retired the last six batters to close out the crisp 2-hour, 3-minute game.

--Atlanta placed three players on the disabled list before Monday's game. RHP Manny Acosta was shelved after straining his left hamstring running to first base in the 16th inning of Sunday's 17-inning marathon against the Astros. IF/OF Omar Infante also landed on the DL after reaggravating his right hamstring earlier in the game. RHP Jeff Bennett was disabled after straining his shoulder in Saturday's game.

--OF Jeff Francoeur was summoned back early from Class AA Mississippi because of the rash of injuries. Francoeur, who was mired in an 8-for-66 slump before his demotion, had been tearing up the Southern League, batting .538 (7-for-13) in three games for the M-Braves. However, he did not play on Monday because his flight did not arrive in Los Angeles until after the game was completed.

--SS Brent Lillibridge and RHP Vladmir Nunez were recalled from Class AAA Richmond. Lillibridge, who was optioned to Richmond on July 3, was 2-for-4 in one game the minors before being brought back to the parent club. Nunez, who pitched one scoreless inning on Monday, was 3-0 with a 3.08 ERA and three saves in 34 games for Richmond.

BY THE NUMBERS: 47 -- Innings between the Braves' lead in a game, from June 27 to July 4.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "This wasn't punitive in nature. We don't even really look at it as a demotion. We look at it as stepping back for a few days and decompressing and getting his game going." -- General manager Frank Wren, on optioning RF Jeff Francoeur to Class AA Mississippi to work on his swing.
