--RHP Rafael Soriano, on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow tendinitis for the third time this season, was examined by Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Fla., on Thursday. There was no immediate report of Andrews' diagnosis. Andrews will be performing RHP Tim Hudson's elbow ligament transplant surgery Friday.
--C Brian McCann's 62 home runs since his first full year in the majors in 2006 leads all catchers. The Yankees' Jorge Posada and the Giants' Bengie Molina rank second with 46 homers each over the same period. --RHP Jorge Campillo, the find of the season, has become the Braves' most dependable starter because he isn't afraid to throw his pitches. It's not so much what he throws, though, as it is where he throws it. As manager Bobby Cox says daily, "Location. It's always location."
--SS Yunel Escobar and 2B Kelly Johnson have turned in some iffy defense on this road trip. Although they have not been charged with errors each time, their lapses have led to runs. Escobar is dealing with a jammed left shoulder, and Johnson, who takes groundballs like a maniac, simply may be wearing down.
--2B Kelly Johnson appears to be more relaxed hitting lower in the batting order and also appears to take a more aggressive approach at the plate. He's batting .419 with a .438 on-base percentage in eight games since July 30.
