--3B Chipper Jones was activated from the 15-day disabled list (strained left hamstring) and was back in the lineup in his usual third spot in the batting order. Jones went 2-for-4 with a 434-foot home run and a pair of RBIs. The Braves were 5-9 in the 14 games he missed.
--LHP Chuck James was optioned to Class AAA Richmond to make room on the roster for 3B Chipper Jones, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list (strained left hamstring). James simply could not control his location -- again -- in his latest stint with the team. --RHP Rafael Soriano was examined by Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Florida on Thursday for his persistent right elbow tendinitis. Dr. Andrews agrees that a series of studies are still inconclusive for structural damage, and says Soriano can pitch if he is able to. If he is not, Andrews recommends exploratory orthoscopy with possible ulnar nerve transposition.
--RHP Tim Hudson underwent successful ligament replacement ("Tommy John") surgery on his right elbow in Pensacola, Florida. The procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews, who ought to be giving the Braves a group rate at this point.
--Braves rookie pitchers have 23 wins this season, the most of any team in the majors: RHP Jair Jurrjens (10), RHP Jorge Campillo (7), RHP Manny Acosta (3) and RHP Charlie Morton (3).
