--LHP Tom Glavine, who had been out with a strained left flexor tendon, was activated from the 15-day disabled list for Thursday's start against the Cubs. He didn't last long, exiting after four innings when his spot came up in the batting order. He threw 70 pitches and gave up two home runs, allowing the Cubs to score seven runs.
--3B Chipper Jones returned to the lineup after missing the second game of Wednesday's split doubleheader with a stomach virus. He went 1-for-5. --C Brian McCann was given Thursday off after catching all but one inning of Wednesday's split doubleheader. Clint Sammons got the start, the first time he had caught LHP Tom Glavine anywhere other than the bullpen for a side session.
--CF Mark Kotsay had a 5-for-5 night and hit for the cycle, the first Brave to do it since Albert Hall in 1987. Kotsay is only the fifth player in franchise history to accomplish the feat.
--LHP Francisley Bueno was optioned to Class AAA Richmond to make room for LHP Tom Glavine. Not coincidentally, Bueno was suspended for three games by Major League Baseball for intentionally throwing at Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano's head in the first game of Wednesday's split doubleheader. He is appealing the suspension, which will not be enforced unless he is called up again.
