--LHP Tom Glavine threw 85 pitches (two hits, four strikeouts) in a simulated game Tuesday with Class AAA Gwinnett and said he felt good. Glavine expects to pitch in a live minor league game Sunday.

--CF Jordan Schafer didn't get to show off his defense in the season opener in Philadelphia on Sunday because RHP Derek Lowe pitched a masterpiece, inducing 13 groundball outs. But manager Bobby Cox says Schafer's defense will be what impresses most, not home runs. Schafer homered in his first major league at-bat, the 99th player to do so. Schafer says his goal on offense this season is to be consistent rather than flashy.

--RHP Blaine Boyer, in need of a third pitch, is working on a hard slider to complement his fastball and his changeup.

MEDICAL WATCH:

LHP Tom Glavine (shoulder and elbow surgeries) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 1. He is expected to make a minor league rehab start on April 12, and he could join the Atlanta rotation later that week.

C David Ross (strained right groin) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 2.

RHP Tim Hudson (Tommy John surgery on right elbow in August 2008) went on the 60-day disabled list March 4. He is targeting an August return date, barring setbacks.

RHP Charlie Morton (left oblique strain) went on the 15-day disabled list March 30.
