--3B Chipper Jones was scratched shortly before game time Wednesday because of a bone bruise on his left thumb. It's actually an injury Jones sustained in spring training, but he aggravated it playing in the cold Sunday and Tuesday nights in Philadelphia. Manager Bobby Cox thinks Jones will be able to play in the Braves' home opener Friday night.

--LF Garret Anderson also was scratched a little before game time in Philadelphia because he aggravated his strained right calf while warming up. The replacements at third base and left field, Omar Infante and Matt Diaz, respectively, combined for four hits and four RBIs. Anderson struck out as a pinch hitter to end the game.

--RHP Kenshin Kawakami has impressed manager Bobby Cox with his pattern of pitches. In Kawakami's poor final spring outing -- giving up seven walks (one intentional) in 2 2/3 innings -- he didn't have control of his curveball.

--CF Jordan Schafer, who became only the fourth player in franchise history to hit a home run in his first major league at-bat, added a two-run homer Wednesday. He hit only 10 home runs last season at Class AA Mississippi. A year ago on April 8, Schafer was suspended 50 games for violating baseball's performance-enhancing-drug policy.

LF Garret Anderson (strained right calf) was scratched from the April 8 lineup, but he appeared in the game as a pinch hitter.

LHP Tom Glavine (shoulder and elbow surgeries) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 1. He is expected to make a minor league rehab start on April 12, and he could join the Atlanta rotation later that week.

C David Ross (strained right groin) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 2.

RHP Tim Hudson (Tommy John surgery on right elbow in August 2008) went on the 60-day disabled list March 4. He is targeting an August return date, barring setbacks.

RHP Charlie Morton (left oblique strain) went on the 15-day disabled list March 30.
