Atlanta Braves Roster Report 2009-04-21

Atlanta Braves Roster Report 2009-04-21
C David Ross (right groin strain) came off the disabled list. C Clint Sammons was optioned to Class AAA Gwinnett. RHP Jorge Campillo was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of right shoulder tendinitis. RHP James Parr was called up from Class AAA Gwinnett to be another long reliever/emergency starter out of the bullpen. RHP Blaine Boyer was designated for assignment to make room for LHP Jo-Jo Reyes, who took the fifth starting spot and pitched April 18 in Pittsburgh.

PLAYER NEWS:

--C Brian McCann was held out of the lineup against the Nationals as he deals with blurry vision in his left eye. Dr. Alan Kozarsky, the Atlanta doctor who performed laser surgery on McCann's eyes in 2007, has set up an appointment with an ophthalmologist in Washington, D.C. for Tuesday.

--LHP Tom Glavine is not as upset about his current situation as some headlines make it sound. Rather, he is realistic about how much he cares to put himself, his family and the team through to make this comeback. He notes that the good news is that his shoulder hurts only when he swings a bat and never when he pitches, and he can still lay down a bunt.

--SS Yunel Escobar's abdominal strain is much improved and he was back in the lineup Monday night against the Nationals. Escobar pulled a muscle jumping up and down in the on deck circle, which has been part of his warm-up routine for years; he's wondering how it might affect his hitting rhythm if he has to stop doing it.

MEDICAL WATCH:

C Brian McCann (blurred vision) was out of the lineup April 19-20 and was day-to-day.

LF Garret Anderson (left quadriceps) came out of the game April 19, didn't play April 20 and was day-to-day.

RHP Jorge Campillo (right shoulder tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list April 17. He said he was merely suffering from a dead arm.

LHP Tom Glavine (shoulder and elbow surgeries) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 1. He had to cut short an April 12 rehab start with Class AA Mississippi with shoulder discomfort, and he was shut down from throwing for two weeks.

RHP Charlie Morton (left oblique strain) went on the 15-day disabled list March 30. He began a rehab assignment with Class AAA Gwinnett on April 12.

RHP Tim Hudson (Tommy John surgery on right elbow in August 2008) went on the 60-day disabled list March 4. He is targeting an August return date, barring setbacks.
