Atlanta Braves Roster Report 2009-04-25

Atlanta Braves Roster Report 2009-04-25
RHP Blaine Boyer was designated for assignment to make room for LHP Jo-Jo Reyes, who took the fifth starting spot and pitched April 18 in Pittsburgh. Boyer ultimately was dealt to St. Louis for minor league OF Brian Barden.

PLAYER NEWS:

--RF Jeff Francoeur's homer in the fifth inning of Atlanta's Friday win was the first run scored by a base hit by the Braves in 21 innings. Atlanta scored three runs over that span by virtue of bases-loaded walks.

--LF Garret Anderson was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Monday with a strained left quadriceps muscle. The 36-year-old Anderson has just five hits in 25 at-bats this season.

--OF Brandon Jones was recalled from Class AAA Gwinnett to replace Garret Anderson on the roster. The 25-year-old Jones posted a .308 (16-for-52) batting average and drove in eight runs for the G-Braves.

--3B Chipper Jones celebrated his 37th birthday in atypical style, failing to get a hit in five at-bats. Prior to this one, Jones had been lights out on April 24, batting .500 (18-for-36) with four homers, eight RBIs and 10 runs scored.

--RHP Jair Jurrjens may have not gotten the win in Atlanta's 1-0 win over the Nationals on Wednesday, but he helped the bullpen by pitching deep into the contest. Jurrjens, who hurled 7 2/3 innings of shutout ball, became just the second Braves pitcher to last into the eighth inning this season.

MEDICAL WATCH:

C Brian McCann (blurred vision) missed the April 24 game and may need to be placed on the disabled list.

LF Garret Anderson (left quadriceps) came out of the April 19 game, and he didn't play April 20-23. Anderson was placed on the 15-day disabled list April 24 retroactive to April 20.

RHP Jorge Campillo (right shoulder tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list April 17. He said he was merely suffering from a dead arm.

LHP Tom Glavine (shoulder and elbow surgeries) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 1. He had to cut short an April 12 rehab start with Class AA Mississippi with shoulder discomfort, and he was shut down from throwing for two weeks.

RHP Charlie Morton (left oblique strain) went on the 15-day disabled list March 30. He began a rehab assignment with Class AAA Gwinnett on April 12.

RHP Tim Hudson (Tommy John surgery on right elbow in August 2008) went on the 60-day disabled list March 4. He is targeting an August return date, barring setbacks.
