Atlanta Braves Roster Report 2009-04-30

Atlanta Braves Roster Report 2009-04-30
The Braves opened the week missing two keys parts of their attack. C Brian McCann (blurred vision) and LF Garret Anderson (quadriceps) both landed on the disabled list over the weekend with ailments that had slowed them over the past week. Atlanta must hope backup C David Ross and reserve OFs Matt Diaz and Brandon Jones can provide some pop.

PLAYER NEWS:

--C Brian McCann served as a designated hitter for a second night with Class A Myrtle Beach, trying to get comfortable with a new contact lens in his left eye. He went a combined 1-for-6 in the two games, but the contact was bothering him. He'll be coming back to Atlanta on Thursday's off day and probably will continue his rehab with Class AAA Gwinnett.

--RHP Kenshin Kawakami is experiencing right shoulder fatigue and will be slotted at the back of the rotation, skipping a start. He will not pitch again until May 5 against the Mets.

--2B Kelly Johnson was out of the starting lineup for the second consecutive day in favor of INF Omar Infante. Johnson is in a hitting slump, but manager Bobby Cox says he'll be back in the lineup "real soon."

MEDICAL WATCH:

RHP Kenshin Kawakami (right shoulder fatigue) had his next start pushed back from May 2 to May 5.

C Brian McCann (blurriness in left eye) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 23. He began a rehab assignment with Class A Myrtle Beach on April 28.

LF Garret Anderson (left quadriceps strain) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 20.

RHP Jorge Campillo (right shoulder tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list April 17. He said he was merely suffering from a dead arm.

LHP Tom Glavine (shoulder and elbow surgeries) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 1. He had to cut short an April 12 rehab start with Class AA Mississippi with shoulder discomfort, and he was shut down from throwing for two weeks.

RHP Charlie Morton (left oblique strain) went on the 15-day disabled list March 30. He began a rehab assignment with Class AAA Gwinnett on April 12.

RHP Tim Hudson (Tommy John surgery on right elbow in August 2008) went on the 60-day disabled list March 4. He is targeting an August return date, barring setbacks.
