Atlanta Braves Roster Report 2009-05-05
The team is in flux thanks to a few key injuries and a sputtering offense. Manager Bobby Cox continues to massage his lineup while waiting for the return of C Brian McCann and LF Garrett Anderson.

PLAYER NEWS:

--3B Chipper Jones hit his first home run at Turner Field since Sept. 10, 2008. With his swing hampered by the left thumb bone bruise, he's been drawing mostly walks and hitting singles instead of extra-base hits.

--C Brian McCann will start his rehab assignment with Class A Rome (Ga.) on Wednesday. His new glasses are not expected to arrive until that morning, and Class AAA Gwinnett has a Wednesday morning game, explaining why McCann is in Rome.

--LHP Tom Glavine threw his first bullpen session Monday. He said he did not have the arm strength he had at the end of spring training and doesn't know how long it will take for that to come back.

--RHP Javier Vazquez threw a season-high 110 pitches, but two of them were down the middle and up to Carlos Beltran. After having given up only a single home run over 32 innings, Vazquez surrendered three in his last 1 2/3 innings Monday.

MEDICAL WATCH:

RHP Kenshin Kawakami (right shoulder fatigue) had his next start pushed back from May 2 to May 5.

C Brian McCann (blurriness in left eye) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 23. He began a rehab assignment with Class A Myrtle Beach on April 28, and he will play for Class AAA Gwinnett beginning May 6.

LF Garret Anderson (left quadriceps strain) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 20. He declined a rehab assignment and is expected to be activated May 5.

RHP Jorge Campillo (right shoulder tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list April 17. He said he was merely suffering from a dead arm.

LHP Tom Glavine (shoulder and elbow surgeries) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 1. He had to cut short an April 12 rehab start with Class AA Mississippi with shoulder discomfort, and he was shut down from throwing for two weeks. He threw a bullpen session on May 4.

RHP Charlie Morton (left oblique strain) went on the 15-day disabled list March 30. He began a rehab assignment with Class AAA Gwinnett on April 12.

RHP Tim Hudson (Tommy John surgery on right elbow in August 2008) went on the 60-day disabled list March 4. He is targeting an August return date, barring setbacks.
