Campillo pitched the ninth inning Thursday against the Marlins, allowing a leadoff triple to Ross Gload, one of two hits and a run he gave up. He has a 5.40 ERA in four appearances, allowing two earned runs in 3 1/3 innings.
"I don't feel like my arm is strong," Campillo said.
The Braves are also a little short on the left side of the infield. Yunel Escobar had to leave Thursday's game with a strained abdominal muscle, which he injured jumping up and down in the on-deck circle, warming up.
Manager Bobby Cox said it could be three or four days before he returns. Escobar said he thought could be ready sooner than that, possibly as early as tonight in Pittsburgh.
The Braves had no immediate plans to call up another infielder. Chipper Jones is expected to miss his third consecutive game tonight with his bruised left thumb, which he aggravated Tuesday against the Marlins.
Jones said he could be back as early as Saturday, depending on how he feels. It's his top hand that hurts on his left-handed swing. The Braves face a right-hander on Saturday but left-handed Zach Duke on Sunday.
Parr made five starts for Atlanta last year, going 1-0 with a 4.84 ERA.
The Braves will make another roster move Saturday when they activate Jo-Jo Reyes to start in place of the injured Tom Glavine. While Glavine has been on the disabled list, he was expected to be ready to pitch Saturday. To make room for Reyes, Blaine Boyer could be the odd man out after giving up four runs in one-third of inning on Wednesday night and watching his ERA balloon to 40.50 in three games.
McCann gets day off as Ross starts
Brian McCann got his first day off of the season behind the plate Thursday in a day game that followed a night game.
Two off days in the first week of the season allowed McCann to catch every game --- the first eight --- but now the Braves are getting more into the heart of their schedule. At 25 years old, McCann is learning to play it smart.
"I understand now that I've gotten a little older," McCann said. "I need days off early for September. I'm fine with taking the days and resting."
McCann has played 130, 139 and 145 games in his first three full major-league seasons.
Backup catcher David Ross (groin) was activated from the disabled list Thursday and made his first start. He went 1-for-2 with a walk and threw out a runner.
Clint Sammons was optioned to Gwinnett and will be in uniform there for the first game at Gwinnett Stadium tonight.
