CHICAGO (AP) - Atlanta third baseman Chipper Jones, leading the major leagues in hitting at .420, was out of the lineup for a second straight game Tuesday night because of a small tear in his right quadriceps, but did pinch-hit.
Jones pinch-hit in the seventh inning against the Chicago Cubs and drew a walk, but was immediately replaced by pinch-runner Josh Anderson."I'm hoping maybe (to) be back in there tomorrow," Jones said before the game.
"It's better. I still can't run the way I need to. I wouldn't be able to run the bases. I don't know what kind of range I would have out at third base," he said.
Jones said it's too early to start paying too much attention to his lofty batting average.
"We get into mid-August and September and somebody is hitting .400, that's when you can start talking about it, when you can start following them," he said. "A lot more baseball to play before we get to that point."
