Griffey, 39, has spoken with Braves general manager Frank Wren, but the talks are "fluid, still developing," another source says.
Griffey's agent, Brian Goldberg, did not return a phone call seeking comment.
The Braves are trying to sign a left-handed hitting outfielder, preferably one who can platoon with Matt Diaz in left and also play center on occasion.
The team also wants to re-sign free-agent left-hander Tom Glavine, but has only between $6 million and $8 million left to spend, sources say.
