Sources: Glavine could make $4.5M in Braves deal
After days of negotiations, Atlanta has finally come to terms with Tom Glavine.

The Braves on Thursday reached agreement with Glavine on a one-year, $1 million deal, according to major-league sources.

Glavine will make an additional $1 million for his first day on the active roster, $1.25 million for 30 days on the roster and another $1.25 million for 90 days on the roster, bringing the total possible value of the deal to $4.5 million. Glavine, however, has agreed to defer a portion of the money, a concession that lowers the present-day value of the contract.

Glavine's agent, Gregg Clifton, could not be reached for comment.

By agreeing to defer some of the money, Glavine, who turns 43 on March 25, gives the Braves greater flexibility as they seek to add a left-handed hitting outfielder.

Glavine returned to the Braves last season on a one-year, $8 million free-agent contract. He went 2-4 with a 5.54 ERA in 13 starts before undergoing minor elbow and shoulder surgeries, but is expected to be ready for Opening Day.

The Braves are set with their first four starters — right-handers Derek Lowe, Jair Jurrjens, Javier Vazquez and Kenshin Kawakami.
